Earl Franklin Dodge
Earl Franklin Dodge passed away unexpectedly Nov. 24, 2010, in Casa Grande, Ariz. He was born July 11, 1934, in Orofino, to Earl and Mayme Dodge. He moved many times as a young boy, living in Orofino, Ahsahka, and Teakean, Idaho, and Port Angeles and Deming, Wash.
Before beginning a career on the log pond at Potlatch Corp. in 1963, he worked on ore boats plying the Great Lakes, was a miner in the Mullan, Idaho, area, and worked various wood working jobs as a gas fitter.
He married Clara L. Brock of Teakean June 13, 1954. They raised two boys, eventually moving to Lewiston in 1964.
He loved to camp and fish, with many trips over the years - whether by tent, RV or horse. He especially loved his two granddaughters, camping with them, taking them on boat, golf-cart and motorcycle rides.
Earl was well-known for his woodworking skills and willingness to help family or friends with whatever task needed to be done. He was notorious for his quick and dry wit. He was always reading and learning throughout his adult life; he eventually earned his general education development certificate in 1985, at age 51.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; son Jim of Everett, Wash., with daughter-in-law Diana, and granddaughters Carol and Amanda; sisters Kathryn and Steve Sly of Clarkston, and Beverly Choate of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; brother Kenny and Sandy Dodge of Port Angeles; sister-in-law Dana Dodge of Lewiston; along with numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by son Russ and brothers Gary and Ronald.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be a celebration of his life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
